What is the Land Accelerator Africa?
The World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Land Accelerator Africa is the first global training and mentorship programme designed exclusively for companies working to restore degraded forests, cropland, and pasture. It was started in 2018. The AFR100 Initiative aims to restore 100 million hectares of land by 2030; the Land Accelerator helps businesses across Africa access resources including mentorship, networking, technical training, and workshops to improve their communication skills. After completing the course, participants will have the tools necessary to initiate conversations with prospective investors and take their businesses to the next level. Since 2018, around 3,400 Africans have applied to the programme, and its 196 graduates from 45 nations say they’ve helped generate 9,000 jobs, engaged 250,000 farmers, and revitalised 201,000 acres of land.

What does the program look like?
A group of 100 leading land restoration entrepreneurs from around the continent have been invited by WRI and partners at AFR100 and Fledge to participate in a digital business accelerator since 2021. Business owners with experience in restoration are encouraged to apply from anywhere in sub-Saharan Africa.
The top one hundred will receive the following:
– Three months of private, once-a-week instruction from industry leaders.
– Three months of unlimited use of Fledge’s startup-focused online courses.
– Pre-made formats for developing material that will promote growth for your company.
– Expert guidance from mentors during weekly office hours
– Opportunities to meet and learn from other entrepreneurs in your cohort on a weekly basis.
– Successful completion of the programme will result in a $5,000 innovation grant for participants who satisfy all requirements.

At the conclusion of the programme, business owners will have had the opportunity to access training and use tools:
- To attract financiers, clients, and business associates, you need a pitch that can be delivered in 60 seconds or less.
- An investor pitch deck with 10-12 slides.
- A strategy for the monitoring, administration, and promotion of ecologically relevant indicators of status.
- A financial plan for the next three to five years, showing how much money would be needed to support expected growth.
- An elevated sense of assurance in the company’s ability to accomplish its goals.
- Land Accelerator is offering a free investment bundle to the top 15 entrepreneurs who are among the top 100 who have completed the virtual course.
Recipients of the investment packs will benefit from:
- Each recipient will receive at least a $5,000 innovation grant.
- Access to a Land Accelerator coach to work on your business investment and innovation grant proposal.
- A 90-minute workshop with the Land Accelerator’s network of mentors and the attendant personalised feedback.
- An in-depth assessment of everything you’ve submitted to the Land Accelerator, including a one-on-one call with a mentor who can provide you with advice and feedback.
- Awardees and investors from all around the continent will gather for a virtual or in-person Land Accelerator Demo Day, where each will have three minutes to present and demonstrate their idea.
- The Land Accelerator Impact Days, scheduled for October 16-20, 2023 in Malawi, will provide attendees with a chance to network with other business owners while also receiving instruction from some of the world’s most successful business leaders.
