Social media use in Ghana

An additional 10 percent of the world’s population had access to the internet in July 2021 compared to January 2021 — 65 percent of the global population, or 5.17 billion people. Every minute, Amazon and Zoom generate a staggering amount of data. As of December, 2021; the most patronised social media in Ghana were WhatsApp (83.9 %), Facebook (67.34 %), Twitter (14.13 %), Pinterest (8.71 %), YouTube (5.47 %), Instagram (3.53 %) and LinkedIn (0.47 %) (Statista, 2021).

Ghana had around eight million #socialmedia #users as of January 2021. An increase from the previous year’s six million. There were an estimated 8.9 million Facebook users in August 2021. In the third quarter of 2020, 83.9 percent of internet users in the country were using WhatsApp, the most popular messaging app. In Ghana, the number of people using various forms of social media has been steadily increasing over time.
Expanding online activity
In January 2021, there were 15.7 million #internet users in #Ghana. As of 2021, half of the population have access to the internet, a penetration rate of 50% which was markedly driven by the #covid19pandemic. Consequently, internet-related profits in the country were expected to reach $1.9 billion in 2022, continuing a rising trend from the years before (TradeStatistics, 2021).

Services and subscriptions for mobile devices
More than 43 million Mobile Phones subscriptions were active in Ghana as of the beginning of 2021, with the majority of those being pre-paid. There were an estimated 17.84 million mobile internet users in the same period. Also in 2019, 134.32 mobile cellular subscriptions per 100 people were recorded, indicating an increasing trend in the number of users of mobile phones. Thus, if you’re a young entrepreneur or startup in Ghana, you can’t just do without investing in your brand’s social presence. Create a professional account or business page on WhatsApp Business, Telegram, Wechat, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram and deliberately manage them as vital tools to grow your brand or business.
